Rock Bridge

Rock Bridge was open today so I went for a little spin after work.  Double flatted 1.5 miles into it.  I guess I will try again tomorrow.

Bartlett's Wash

Ok, this is a crazy place.  You can't really call it a trail, but it is an adventure.  Sandstone type slickrock makes for some fun and scary riding.  Mike took a trip down toilet bowl.  Sorry the video deos not do it justice, but focus on the snapshot from the top to get a true perspective.  We had lots of fun on this ride.

Lower Porcupine Single Track

4,000 feet of elevtion loss in 18 miles makes for some very fun riding.   Throw in the views from the rim of the mesa and you have a fantasic trail.   8:45 in is where I went over the bars...enjoy:)

Amasa Back

Still one of my favorite trails because of the amazing views and the drive by Coonskin Larry's cave!

Sovereign Trail

This is a pretty cool trail, but don't expect Brandogger to agree with me!.  Moderate climbing with some fun descents.  Just as we made it back to the FJ it started to hail on us.  One nice thing about the weather in Moab, we just had to go a few miles up the road to the next trail and it was completely dry:)

Fins and Things

This was a blast.  It made me wish I would have brought my FJ out too.  Who knew a stock vehicle could do all this and cruise on the highway at 80 MPH.  What a fantasic vehicle!

Klondike Bars and Baby Steps go together?

I have a ton of things to report from our Moab trip.  As you can imagine, with 6 guys from 2 states all in one condo for a week, I have a lot to talk about.  The trip up was long, but well worth it.  I will have a short video of some of the cool scenery later this week.  I want to concentrate on some of the riding we did.

I am not posting in the order we rode the trails, but here is the first of the completed videos.

Klondike Bluffs was a climb up on slick rock.  This provided for some fun on Baby Steps on the way down.

Why I Mountain Bike

I went to Rock Bridge today to play around a little with some different camera angles.  I am wanting to capture some entertaining video when we go to Moab/Fruita next weekend.  I think there are several perspectives I can work with.

Rhett's Run Race Course

Remember they have made some changes this past year.  The signage is really good, so just follow them and you should be golden.  The only difference is in the past they alter the course to bring you up by the pavilion by the skateboard park and then head you back into the woods.

Bone Bender - 2011

What a fun race and great trail.  Being pretty much a couch potatoe over the last 5 months due to injury and only about 4 weeks to train for this event, I did not have any expectations but to get out and push myself a little.  I made the crucial error of not jumping out in front at the beginning, but honestly I was just hoping to stay out of people's way.  For the first 23 minutes it was a walk-a-thon as we headed into the trail.

I finally managed to get around horads of people and find some guys that were more my speed to ride with.  I felt pretty good lap 1 and kept picking people off on the technical climbs.  By the end of lap 2, my legs were cramping and I was popping endurolytes by the handful.  I drank about 100oz of water, but I guess I need more sodium.  I will have to dial that in.  By the middle of the 3rd lap I was just telling myself to keep moving forward.  I was getting lapped by the leaders, but I was not getting passed by anyone else, so that felt good.

I ended up finishing 25 out of 52 riders RESULTS.  That is encouraging and will make me train harder.  A better start and a bit more fitness, I could easily improve.

Here is a video of some of the more "flowy" sections and a couple of the technical climbs.

What I like about BOCOMO

First Installment

You can be out shaking the winter rust off on the road all by yourself and before you know it bump into Green Beans and finish out your ride chatting and catching up.  Well Green Beans was chatting, I could barley manage one word responses as we rolled through the hills.

Mountains of Mayhem

Here is a rather boring video, not because of the subjects I am filming, but because I cannot ride very well yet.  I had to take it easy and protect my broken arm.  I really do not want to prolong the healing past next week.

New Arrival

I love a down economy and friends with buying power.  4 of us went in together to buy some Mach 429's.  We got a really good deal and I could not be happier with the purchase.  Because of my broken arm, I will not get a chance to ride off-road for awhile, but I can say this, the bike is very stable, but still responds well to cornering.  It climbs like a hard tail and is very laterally stiff.  I love feeling like I am sitting in the cockpit versus sitting on top of the bike.  This will be my endurance cruiser bike.  I can't wait to put it and me to the test this year!

APRIL YET?

Good news, the bone is showing signs of healing, but I need 6 more weeks of healing before they x-ray again and release me back to normal activity.  As long as I do not do tough climbs where I have to pull on the bars, I can ride on pavement.  I guess it is a good thing I got rid of the single speed....for now!

5k Resolution "BEER" Run

Ok this is now a new tradition.  24 degrees and gale force winds, but they had BEER!!!!

65 Degrees in December?

Went back to Wichita for the week inbetween Christmas and New Years.  50 degrees and cloudy on Tuesday.  Rain on Wednesday and 65 degrees and dusty trails on Thursday??? WTF!!!
